"De Hoedt en de Rand (Arnhem)
De statige panden aan de Amsterdamseweg in Arnhem geven zelfs bij een overwegend troosteloos weerbeeld zoals de Heeren dat vanmorgen aantreffen, een tijdloze ambiance. Het opvallende vanillekleurige pand van De Hoedt en de Rand (dat met de blauwe brievenbus) staat pal naast regionaal, en misschien zelfs wel landelijk, bekend veilinghuis Derksen.
“Speels en ongedwongen en bovenal een zeer aangename sfeer!”
De Hoedt en de Rand stond tot vrij recent ‘bekend’ als exotisch boetiekje annex wereldwinkel, waar vooral opvallende boeddha’s en andersoortig oriëntaals geïnspireerde woonaccessoires de etalage sierden. Welnu, de zaak heeft een gedaanteverwisseling ondergaan, en zit daar eigenlijk nog steeds in, en het is koffie dat momenteel het vlaggenschip is!
De diepe zaak is voorzien van tafels met fijn zittende stoelen en in het midden een charismatische turquoise Manetti koffiemachine, die vanmorgen bediend wordt door barista Chantal. Her en der verspreid staan meubelstukken en (nog steeds) accessoires die wel of niet te koop zijn. Speels en ongedwongen en bovenal een zeer aangename sfeer! En dat terwijl de zaak, die zijn officiële opening heeft op zaterdag 14 december, nog niet eens klaar is.
“De koffie is geweldig!”
Over de koffie (à €1,50 per kopje!) kunnen de Heeren kort zijn: deze is namelijk geweldig. Een mooie, volle smaak, voorzien van een stevige bite maar die nooit bitter wordt. De crema laag is ook van een evenredige consistentie en de huisgemaakte kokosmakroon is niet te versmaden. Hier scoort Hoedt punten!
Koffie bij ‘De Hoedt en de Rand’
De bediening wordt vanmorgen verzorgd door de aimabele Chantal, die je niets hoeft wijs te maken over koffie. De Heeren krijgen van haar zelfs een korte rondleiding in de winkel en een ‘college’ geschiedenis over de historie van de zaak en een vooruitblik op de nabije toekomst. Zo leren wij dat een terras zeker in de planning zit! Leuk!
Zakelijk is De Hoedt en de Rand ook prima om bij aan te schuiven. We constateren voldoende wandcontactdozen en de tafels staan op ruime afstand van elkaar gesitueerd. De zaak is gevestigd tussen de lommerrijke Burgemeesterswijk en het genoeglijke Heijenoord en in de loop van supermarkt Jumbo naar CITO; de kans dat de zaak binnenkort dus door mensen uit deze wijken en door medewerkers van CITO ontdekt wordt voor een ‘coffee-to-go’ lijkt ons dus zeer vanzelfsprekend.
Door deze goede cijfers dondert De Hoedt en de Rand de ranglijst van de Heeren binnen op een mooie vierde plek! Proficiat!

"De Hoedt en de Rand (Arnhem)
The stately buildings on the Amsterdamseweg in Arnhem give a timeless ambiance, even in a predominantly desolate weather image, such as the Heeren encountered this morning. The striking vanilla-colored building of De Hoedt en de Rand (the one with the blue letterbox) is located right next to the regional, and perhaps even national, auction house Derksen.
“Playful and casual and above all a very pleasant atmosphere!”
Until fairly recently, De Hoedt en de Rand was 'known' as an exotic boutique annex world shop, where especially striking Buddhas and other oriental-inspired home accessories adorned the shop window. Well, the case has been metamorphosed, and actually still is, and it's coffee that's currently the flagship!
The deep place has tables with comfortable chairs and in the middle a charismatic turquoise Manetti coffee machine, which is operated this morning by barista Chantal. Scattered here and there are pieces of furniture and (still) accessories that may or may not be for sale. Playful and casual and above all a very pleasant atmosphere! And that while the case, which has its official opening on Saturday December 14, is not even ready yet.
“The coffee is great!”
The Heeren can be brief about the coffee (at €1.50 per cup): it is great. A nice, full taste, with a firm bite, but never bitter. The crema layer is also of an even consistency and the homemade coconut macaroon is not to be missed. Hoedt scores points here!
Coffee at 'De Hoedt en de Rand'
The service this morning is provided by the amiable Chantal, who doesn't have to tell you anything about coffee. She even gives De Heeren a short tour of the store and a 'lecture' history about the history of the business and a preview of the near future. This is how we learn that a terrace is definitely in the planning! Nice!
In business terms, De Hoedt en de Rand is also a great place to join. We notice sufficient wall sockets and the tables are situated at a good distance from each other. The business is located between the leafy Burgemeesterswijk and the pleasant Heijenoord and in the course of supermarket Jumbo to CITO; the chance that the case will soon be discovered by people from these neighborhoods and by employees of CITO for a 'coffee-to-go' seems very obvious to us.
Due to these good figures, De Hoedt en de Rand plunges into the ranking of the Heeren in a nice fourth place! Congrats!
