De Vickers Wellington was op 4 mei 1943 met vijf bemanningsleden opgestegen in Engeland. Na een bombardement op de Duitse stad Dortmund, werd het op de terugweg neergeschoten door een Duits jachtvliegtuig. Piloot Robert Moulton gaf, terwijl het vliegtuig neerstortte, de bemanning opdracht het toestel per parachute te verlaten.

Twee bemanningsleden slaagden daarin en zijn vervolgens krijgsgevangen gemaakt. Zij hebben de oorlog overleefd. De drie andere bemanningsleden overleefden de crash niet.

The Vickers Wellington had taken off from England on 4 May 1943 with five crew members. After bombing the German city of Dortmund, it was shot down by a German fighter on the way back. As the plane crashed, pilot Robert Moulton ordered the crew to leave the plane by parachute.

Two crew members succeeded in doing so and were subsequently made prisoners of war. They survived the war. The three other crew members did not survive the crash.
