"La Geria is an area of the island of Lanzarote , Canary Islands ( Spain ), known for the uniqueness of its volcanic landscape . It was used for the planting of vines for the production of wine, the Malvasia variety being abundant .

Cultivation of vines in La Geria
The vines are planted in cones formed in the lapilli , locally called picón , and further protected by small dry stone walls. Fruit trees, such as fig trees, are also planted in the same way. This type of planting allows plants to root more easily in the fertile soil, while the top layer of lapilli reduces evapotranspiration. In addition, the shape of the holes and the additional wall protect the crops from the wind.

Protected natural area
The area was protected by Law 12/1987, of June 19, on the Declaration of Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands as La Geria Natural Park and reclassified by Law 12/1994, of December 19, on Natural Spaces of the Canary Islands. In addition, it has been declared a special protection area for birds ( ZEPA ). It also includes the natural monument of the Cueva de los Naturalistas, a large natural volcanic tube.

The La Geria Natural Park comprises land in the municipalities of Yaiza , Tías , Tinajo , San Bartolomé and Teguise , with an area of ??5,255 hectares. It includes several small towns: Masdache, Vega de Tegoyo, La Asomada, Conil, Mozaga , La Geria and El Islote-Casa de la Florida.

It is bordered to the west by the Los Volcanes Natural Park , which surrounds the Timanfaya National Park ."

This point is one of the cultivation wines in this are, curious because never rain in tha island and here show us how the plants "drink".
we see the cones that protect from the wind and the roots are two and a half meters away to collect the morning dew.
In the place there are many wineries to taste the wine from there.
