This statue of Saint Joseph is located at Saint Catharine's Cemetery on Route 8 in Titusville, Pennsylvania. The statue depicts Saint Joseph with a halo over his head, holding a lily in his left hand. The statue in the location of the cemetery where a number of women from the Sisters of Mercy are buried. A plaque in front of the statue notes that it once stood at the entrance of Saint Joseph's Convent in Titusville, the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Mercy from 1870 until 1926, when the Motherhouse was moved to Erie. The convent continued until 1970. A number of early leaders of the Sisters are commemorated on the base of the statue.

St. Joseph was a carpenter in Nazareth, who was betrothed to a young virgin named Mary. After the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would conceive a son by the Holy Ghost, Joseph considered quietly leaving her. However, after seeing a vision of angel who reassured him, Joseph stood by Mary. After the census was decreed by Caesar Augustus, Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem where she gave birth to the Christ child. When King Herod sought to kill the child, Joseph took Mary and Jesus and fled to Egypt. They eventually returned to Nazareth, where, as St. Luke relates, Jesus was obedient to his parents and "advanced in wisdom, and age, and grace with God and men" (St. Luke 2:52).
