This small fort was once part of the defence network of Santo Domingo, in Dominican Republic

This fort was built between 1505 and 1510. It's polygonal, established by the water, designed to be part of the defence of the town against attacks from pirates and rival countries of Spain.
It was formerly known as Fuerte del Matadero, ou Slaughterhouse fort.
In 1887 the rough seas severely damaged the fort which was recently renovated.
