The first priest since the reformation in the town of Blairgowrie in eastern Scotland was James McKay who purchased ground in the town's Bank Street and built two houses, one of which served as a Catholic church.
James McKay was succeeded by Dr John Carmont who had a new church built on the site in 1856. Designed by Edward Welby Pugin, it was opened by Bishop Gillies of Edinburgh, with William Smith, who would go on to become Bishop of Edinburgh, giving the first sermon.
The church lies on the west side of the town centre and is rectangular-plan with a five bay nave. There is an adjoining five bay rectangular-plan hall. It features a steeply-pitched roof and pointed-arch windows. Both gable ends overlook John Street to the south-west, and Bank Street to the north-east.
Services are on Sundays at 11.00am, weekdays at 10.00, and Saturdays at 6.30am.
