At the end of the walkway within the National Military Cemetery in Beechwood Cemetery, is the Tri-Service Monument. The monument has three sides, each one devoted to one branch of the Canadian Forces. Etched on the face of the monument honouring the Royal Canadian Navy sailors and assorted personnel is the Naval Hymn:
The Naval Hymn
Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidst the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep:
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O Christ, whose voice the waters heard,
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walkedst on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst the storm didst sleep:
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.
William Whiting, 1860
