Statue de Pionier
Here on the edge of Mantinge is a statue of a farmer looking over his fields. The statue is part of a group of three. The other two are in Balinge, where a tool is depicted (wheelbarrow), and in Garminge, where an animal is depicted (ox).
Until the Middle Ages, the land in this area was not cultivated, it was swampy ground with forest on it.
After the Middle Ages, farmers from Westerbork settled here and used the grounds as pastureland.
At the moment it is no longer used for agriculture but returned to nature.
