Lafayette's Encampment
March - April 1781
During the Revolutionary War, 1200 continental light infantrymen under the command of the Marquis de Lafayett encamped on the rise behind this sign enroute to the decisive batle in Yorktown, VA. They arrived in Annapolis from Head of Elk by a flotilla of Maryland ships under the command of Commodore James Nicholson.

More info about the site/marker (optional): This site is just across Spa Creek from historic downtown Annapolis. There are numberous waymarks in downtown Annapolis in the National Register of Historic Places category. The U.S. Naval Academy (also a Waymark) can be seen across the creek to the right.
