Saint John Roman Catholic Church is located on Clearfield Road in Fenelton, Pennsylvania.
According to the church's sign, as well as a cornerstone on the church building, the church was built in 1853. Interestingly, on the church's steeple there is another stone which states that it was built in 1877. In the book A History of the Catholic Church in the Dioceses of Pittsburg and Allegheny from its Establishment to the Present Time, published by Benzinger Brothers in 1880, it is noted that, "The corner-stone was laid by Rev. John Larkin, of Freeport, August 15th of the above year [1853], and the church was finished and dedicated in the course of the following summer." (p. 448)
A nearby historical marker notes that the church's first pastor was Fr. Richard C. Christy, who was also the first Catholic chaplain from Pennsylvania in the Civil War. Today the church is part of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish.
The church is constructed of red brick and has one tall tower with a steeple. The church is surrounded by a cemetery and has a large grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes near it.
