The house was built around 1760. It's a single floor home which now hosts the Museums Juan Pablo Duarte and the Institute Duarte, which actually is extended to two neighbouring houses.

Here was born and grew up the man who is considered the father od Dominican Republic, due to his role in the process of independence from Spain. By the end of the street there is a church where he was baptized.

He lived in the house with his parents and siblings from 1829 to 1844, when he was exiled.

There is a plaque and a small statue of Duarte in front of the house.
