De oorspronkelijke naam van “Kind met uitgestrekte hand” luidde “Jongen met duif in zijn hand”. Het beeld was een geschenk van de Rabobank ter gelegenheid van de opening van een nieuw filiaal van de bank in Harmelen aan de Kloosterweg. Het werk is gemaakt door Kees van der Laan in 1973. Het is een bronzen beeld, dat nu op een muurtje staat voor de Hervormde Kerk van Harmelen.

Oorspronkelijk heeft “Kind met uitgestrekte hand” aan de Kalverstraat/Kerkplein gestaan, tegenover de Hervormde Kerk Harmelen. In 2015 is de plaats van “Kind met uitgestrekte hand” ingenomen door het monument ter nagedachtenis aan de in Harmelen geboren verzetsheld Cor van Bemmel (Harmelen, 14 augustus 1912 – Assen, 21 maart 1945).

De bronzen duif op de hand is diverse keren gestolen en gevandaliseert. Nu heeft het Stadsmuseum Woerden, dat het beeld beheert, een kunststof duif op de hand geplaatst.

The original name of “Child with outstretched hand” was “Boy with dove in his hand”. The statue was a gift from Rabobank on the occasion of the opening of a new branch of the bank in Harmelen on the Kloosterweg. The work was made by Kees van der Laan in 1973. It is a bronze statue, which now stands on a wall in front of the Reformed Church of Harmelen.

Originally “Child with outstretched hand” stood on Kalverstraat/Kerkplein, opposite the Hervormde Kerk Harmelen. In 2015, the place of “Child with outstretched hand” was taken by the monument in memory of the resistance hero Cor van Bemmel, born in Harmelen (Harmelen, 14 August 1912 – Assen, 21 March 1945).

The bronze dove on the hand has been stolen and vandalized several times. Now the Woerden City Museum, which manages the statue, has placed a plastic pigeon on the hand.
