Gally the Bison has had a strange and not overly documented history, up until the 40s, Gallaudet was known as the "Kendalls," then the "Blues." Eric Malzkuhn was the editor of the of the sports column in the student newspaper, "The Buff and Blue." He proposed in a 1941 column to change the name from the "Blues" to the "Blue Bison," oddly this name stuck before any formal decisions were made, though over time it changed from "Blue Bisons" to "Bisons" and in 1958 it was just "Bisons." When Gally the Bison came into the picture is unknown, but Gally is the official mascot, a living version of Gally lives at the National Zoo.
The artist is B Williams, date is unknown.
