"Founded in 1961, Saturn is now managed as an independent sales brand under the umbrella of the MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group - Europe's number one in consumer electronics retailing. After the company's founders sold Saturn to Kaufhof Warenhaus AG, new Saturn stores were opened starting in 1985, first in Frankfurt and then in other German cities. From 1990 onwards, there was another change of ownership and the Media Markt holding company gradually acquired the existing Saturn stores.
