Robert Shawn "Bubba" Harrison, 43, a Washington area native who was a master police officer in the Fairfax County Police Department, died May 14, 2003, at Potomac Hospital after a heart attack.
Mr. Harrison, who had been a police officer since 1980, served most recently as a resource officer assigned to the Franconia station. From 1998 to 2000, he was a resource officer at Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield. Earlier, he was a motorcycle officer who won awards in regional motorcycle safety competitions.
He was active in volunteer work through the police department. He rode his motorcycle in Santa's Rides for Children, an annual charity event to collect toys and money, and he volunteered at events coinciding with National Police Week to commemorate fallen officers.
Mr. Harrison, who lived in Woodbridge, was born in Arlington. He entered the Fairfax police academy after graduating from Thomas A. Edison High School in Fairfax. He later received an associate's degree in criminology from Northern Virginia Community College.
