The basilique was built on an old Paleo-Christian cemetery in the 15th century. It is believed that it was built on the place where Christianity was important (however the Christians were persecuted and it was not possible to know where they were). It is also believed that it was the place where Peter (the first pope and one of the twelve apostles) was crucified upside down.
Its financing throughout history is also obscure, in which the paoa Sixtus IV, who seems to have collected taxes for prostitution in Rome, indigence for religious who practiced sex, indulgences for the living to redeem their sins and later, to the dead. Julius II later created his own brothel.
Truth or lie, would you dare to be in the catacombs?
