The Methow Valley Irrigation District Canal you see behind this sign follows the route of the Old High Line Ditch. Both the ditch and the MVID Canal have been vita to the valley's agricultural production. A fruit-growing boom in the early 1900's brought many new settlers to the valley. Thomas "Lord" Blythe's Methow Canal Company built the ditch in 1907-1908 to bring water to the settler's thirsty orchards. In 1919 the Methow Valley Irrigation District purchased and improved the Ditch, and continues to use it to supply water to the valley.
