Cataclysmic Floods
You are standing in the pathway of the largest floods in North America. They lasted for days, sometimes traveling at highway speeds.

At the end of the last Ice Age, ice dams upriver from here failed, releasing a giant lake of water and ice. Dozens of times over thousands of years, dams formed and gave way, sending floods racing to the Pacific Ocean.

Which Way Did The Floods Go?
Ice Age Floods from Glacial Lake Missoula raced down the Spokane Valley and across eastern Washington. Hundreds of feet deep, these floods carved new channels and scoured the landscape. All the water funneled through narrow Wallula Gap, then flowed down the Columbia Gorge, and out to the Pacific Ocean.
