Since 1967, motorcycle road races have been organized on the Varsselring circuit by the HAMOVE. What is special is that competitions are only held once a year and that the circuit is open to the public for the rest of the year. In the beginning the roads were only 3 meters wide, now it is at least 5 meters everywhere. The circuit is 4,804 meters long and two corners are added to the race. Start and Finish are at the HAMOVE mill and the race is often decided in the famous mill bend.
Famous drivers were contracted in the past. For example, Barry Sheene once started with a factory Honda with oval pistons. Now there are still races, but no longer with factory drivers. A large group of volunteers takes care of the maintenance and safety of the circuit.
