The new facilities which cost £1,439, were paid for by the Civil Service Lifeboat Fund. The station was adapted in 1988 to accommodate the new Tyne class lifeboat ‘ON1147 Sir William Hillary, named after the founder of the RNLI. The latest major repairs to the boathouse were completed in 2008 at a cost of £200,000.
