EN: The current parish church of St. Walburga in the Bornheim suburb of Walberberg goes back to a small hall church from the 8th century. When Archbishop Anno II transferred the relics of Saint Walburga to what was then Berg (Mons) around 1060, the village changed its name to "Mons Sanctae Walgurgis" around 1118, which over the years then became Walberberg. The transfer of the relics with the corresponding volume of pilgrimages then also led to the small hall church being equipped with two extensions and an indented choir.

Between 1197 and 1447, Cistercian women used the church as a monastery church. It was followed by the Jesuit order, who then had the slate tower built in 1591.

The church was badly damaged in World War II and rebuilt after the war, and the tower was completed in 1962. The church was then extensively renovated in the 1980s. The church is generally open for visits every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., services are regularly held on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.
