Op initiatief van de Duitse dominicaan Erren werd besloten om in Venlo te starten met werk van de stichter Jozef Lataste OP. Gepland was om in 1916 in Venlo te beginnen. Onder oorlogsdreiging moesten de zusters al in 1914 vluchten. Via Brasschaat bij Antwerpen kwamen zij in 1914 toch in Venlo terecht en ontvingen daar een tijdelijk onderdak van de Duitse Dominicanen in klooster Trans Cedron. Nadat de boerenhofstede met de naam Rustplaats (bij Venlo) als klooster was ingericht, vestigden de zusters zich definitief in Venlo. Op de terreinen van de hofstede werd een nieuw klooster gebouwd. In 1923 werd het klooster te Venlo een zelfstandig moederhuis met een eigen noviciaat.

De werkzaamheden in de beginperiode bestonden onder andere uit het bezoeken van vrouwengevangenissen. Vanaf de jaren dertig wijdde men zich aan het reclasseringswerk. In militaire barakken uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd vanaf 1947 gestart met Huize Lataste: internaat voor moeilijk opvoedbare meisjes "boven de schoolplichtige leeftijd". In 1983 vond een fusie plaats tussen Huize Lataste en het eveneens in Venlo gehuisveste Nazareth. Samen vormden zij de Stichting Jongerenhulp - Opvang en Begeleiding (SJOB). Het klooster is in 2003 verlaten door de Congregatie van de Dominicanessen van Bethanië.

At the initiative of the German Dominican Erren, it was decided to start in Venlo with the work of the founder Jozef Lataste OP. It was planned to start in 1916 in Venlo. Under the threat of war, the sisters had to flee as early as 1914. Via Brasschaat near Antwerp they nevertheless ended up in Venlo in 1914 and there they received temporary shelter from the German Dominicans in the Trans Cedron monastery. After the farmstead with the name Rustplaats (near Venlo) was converted into a monastery, the sisters settled permanently in Venlo. A new monastery was built on the grounds of the homestead. In 1923 the convent in Venlo became an independent mother house with its own novitiate.

The activities in the initial period included visiting women's prisons. From the 1930s they devoted themselves to probation work. In military barracks from the Second World War, Huize Lataste was started in 1947: a boarding school for girls who are difficult to educate "above the school age". In 1983 a merger took place between Huize Lataste and Nazareth, also located in Venlo. Together they formed the Youth Help - Reception and Guidance Foundation (SJOB). The monastery was abandoned in 2003 by the Congregation of the Dominicans of Bethany.
