They probably could have used a smaller slab of granite and spaced the names in columns, but this is how they did it. The memorial stands about three feet high on a granite base, and it reads:

In memory of and grateful appreciation to those who served on the original board of directors created October 25, 1967 for the establishment of Lee Cemetery Association to provide for the perpetual care and maintenance of Lee Cemetery

Adolph Bowers
Cozette Cundiff
O.L. "Toots" Cundiff
Ben Fly
Jennye Gross
Harry Hawthorne
Lucille Hensley
C.J. Murphrey
William (Bill) Orrell
J.J. Parker
Chloe Pharr
Howard Price
Agnes Ramsey
Rhea Shaw

-----

Of those listed, Mrs. Gross, Mrs. Pharr, Mrs. Ramsey, Mrs. Shaw, Mr. Murphrey, Mr. Orrell, and Mr. Price all rest in peace in the cemetery they loved. The Texas Historical Marker provides some history:

In 1870, James J. Lee (1820-1901), a Confederate Army veteran from Mississippi, donated land for this cemetery, stipulating that no charges were to be made for plots. The 1.125-acre tract was the first cemetery in southeast Dallas County. Among the 1,500 burials are Lee and members of his family; Gen. James S. Raines (1817-1880), an officer in the Mexican War, 1846; some 60 people of Mexican descent; and a slave brought here in 1855. Land deeded for hitching horses has become part of the parking lot. The burial ground is maintained by Lee Cemetery, Inc.
