Lund Nation is a Student Association that has existed since 1890. A Student Association (Nation) is the Swedish version of Fraternity and Sorority Houses. In fact, the history goes all the way back to 1660 when Lund Nation was part of the Scanian Nation. This became at one point so big that it was divided into 6 smaller Nations, of which Lund Nation is the one.
About 3,000 students, both women and men, are affiliated with Lund Nation. The nation hosts activities every day such as dinners, pubs, nightclubs, radio broadcasts, sports activities and cultural events. There are also about 300 student housing units.
The active students bring life to the city and have helped write history. Together with the association Norden, in 1976 they contributed to the cancellation of a major celebration of the very bloody war in which Sweden won over Denmark (Battle of Lund in 1676). The active students were instead advocates of Nordic co-operation. At Lund Nation, a memorial plaque hangs over this.
