Artwork De Rits will be temporarily removed from its place in the De Thij district tomorrow, Tuesday 25 May. The artwork is being restored.
De Rits moves for a while to the workshop of the company Kunstwacht from Delft. The work of art will be restored there and then a few weeks later it will shine again on the Vondellaan in Oldenzaal.
Polyester
The Rits is a colorful work by artist Sjef Sales. The Rits dates from 1976 and, like the White Column on the Zuidwal in Oldenzaal, is made of polyester. Due to weather influences and the 'age' of the artwork, it is necessary to carry out major maintenance on the artwork.
For example, the seams have opened up a bit and the paint is peeling and has taken hold.
Coating
In addition to repairing the artwork itself, it will also be repainted and provided with a coating. This entire process, including relocation, will take approximately three weeks. After that, the artwork will of course be placed back in its current location and it can shine again as a characteristic image for the De Thij district.
