The three story building is in the Greek Revival style. Elias Baker, an Ironmaster, had the house built.
In 1922 the Blair County Historical Society leased the building to run as a Museum. In 1941 the Society was able to purchase the Museum. In 2001 the exterior was returned to its original appearance.
The interior is also being restored. The double parlor has been restored in 2015.
The Baker Mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
