Crosswalk murals are painted in Enid to help increase visibility in areas with a lot of foot traffic crossing. This one is on Independence, south of Cherokee, just west of the Stride Bank Center. Directly to the east is the event center courtyard where there are a couple of sculptures worthy of a stop to see.
This crosswalk mural is quite similar to another one in Enid, but the colors are quite different. Here you'll find a depiction of a sunburst, with a yellow sun, and orange/red hued bursts around it. Several airplanes are shown in the sky, presumably a nod to the nearby Vance Air Force Base. The bottom is green, a field, with wheat stalks growing from it. The mural is approximately 40' long and 6' wide. "AARP" is painted in white on the corner of the mural, since this was an AARP project grant.
