Firefighters were able to revive two dogs and a cat who were found unresponsive in a structure fire in Edmond on Wednesday morning.

Fire officials said they responded to the 100 block of E. 12th Street just before 9 a.m.

While firefighters were extinguishing the fire, additional crews searched the home. No people were inside but two dogs and a cat were found unresponsive.

"Firefighters rescued them from inside and immediately began life-saving medical treatment and soon all three were breathing again," the Edmond Fire Department wrote on Facebook. "The kitten even found a cozy spot inside one of our firefighter's jackets."

The person who lives in the home arrived on the scene and took the animals to the vet for additional evaluation, fire officials said.

The fire department stressed the importance of pet-specific medical equipment.

"Several years ago our department was able to purchase pet specific medical equipment for situations like these," the department wrote on Facebook. "We have since used them many times and we are thankful for our citizens and community that supplies us with the necessary equipment to perform our jobs."
