This tree is exceptional for several reasons.
It is taller than the 40-60 feet average Buckeye tree, at 98 feet in 1991.
It has been allowed to maintain the low, sweeping branch structure rather than being pruned off of the ground.
It is further East of the normal growing range of Buckeye trees of Western Pennsylvania through Northeastern Texas.
Because of its size, stature, and form, it has been designated a Heritage Tree and extra care is given to its welfare.
This tree is found off of Curtin Road, near the Armsby Building. Access is available at all times. Parking is available in several decks around campus. Walking time depends on which deck was chosen. East Deck, behind the Creamery is probably the closest.
