CN 79223 is an M930 extended-vision caboose built by Hawker Siddeley for the CN in 1967. It remained in service until retired in 1993.
From NBritto
"Very rare all-steel 1967 Hawker Siddeley Canada - CN Terminal Shunting Caboose. When launched in April 1967, the Canadian-designed “all steel” rail caboose was revolutionary for its time. The all weather Canadian cabooses replaced a string of older US-made wood units (while cheap to build, the wood units were particularly dangerous and prone to fire due to the sparking train brakes below). The all-steel cabooses were exclusively built at Hawker’s CAN-CAR plant in Fort William, Ontario (now Thunder Bay) and Trenton Works plant in Trenton, Nova Scotia. Typically manned by a Rear Brakeman or Engineer and with amenities like electric lighting, food refrigeration, electric stoves, short wave radio telephones, incinerating toilets and hydroelectric emergency braking systems, the “Hawkers” as they were commonly known served as the backbone of CN rail freight for close to five decades. In fact, several still remain in active service."
The caboose has been recently repainted, but many markings have yet to be replaced.
It appears to be an external restoration only at this time.
Current Use: On display at Price's Country Market.
Type Of Caboose: Extended Vision
