Jeff Liles is the pastor at Kingfisher Church of the Nazarene. He’s also a pretty good free throw shooter and he’s got the world records to prove it.

“You never know what you can do until you try. A lot of people say, 'yeah, I can do that,' but then if you never try, you’ll never be able to do it,” said Liles.

It all started years ago as a youth pastor.

"And I was talking to my youth group one night, and said, 'Hey, I was going through a Guinness book and found this 24-hour record and I think I can break it,'" he said.

Liles did break the record and went on to break 20 other Guinness World Records.

“And all of a sudden, the light bulb went on in my head, and I said, 'oh, that’s the reason I hold 15 world records, and this was six years ago, God honors the promises we keep to him,'" said Liles.

Liles said he’s now focused on personal achievement instead of breaking records.

“I’m gonna make 100,000 free throws in 100 days for nothing. I’m not going to raise any money. I’m just going to do it, just to know no one has ever done this before,” he said.

So, every day Liles makes his way to the church gym to shoot and make 1,000 free throws with a little help from friends and church members that rebound the balls and help keep track of the shots made.

His goal is to shoot and make 1,000 free throws each day and to do it within 45 minutes. On Tuesday, it took him 36 minutes.

“I think they said I missed 62 today,” said Liles.

The challenge started on August 1 and ends on November 8, and then part two of the challenge begins.

“On November 9, I start part two, which instead of 1,000 a day I’ll make 2,000 a day,” said Liles.

On the weekends, Liles will shoot an extra 1,000.

“So, for 60 weeks I’ll make 15,000 a week and make another 900,000 and make it a million,” said Liles.

“I’m 60 right now. My birthday is in December. So, I’ll be 60 when I start and 62 when I finish,” he said.

It’s a big commitment, that Liles is determined make happen.

Liles goes live on Facebook when he’s shooting. You can follow his progress on his Facebook page.
