This memorial can be found in a quiet location on a rural minor road in Aberdeenshire, just over two miles north-east of the village of Fyvie in the north-eastern part of Scotland. The memorial takes the form of a drinking fountain, now disused, and is to the two members of the Chalmers family from the nearby rural settlement of Monkshill. The inscription facing eastwards towards the road reads as follows:
'I WILL GIVE UNTO HIM THAT IS A THIRST OF THE FOUNTAIN OF THE WATER OF LIFE FREELY
IN MEMORIAM
CHARLES CHALMERS
OF MONKSHILL
BORN 1790 DIED 1877
CHARLES DAVID CHALMERS
OF MONKSHILL
MAJOR GENERAL LATE R.A.
BORN 1837 DIED 1893'
The memorial lies on the west side of the road at a copse of beech trees and is around ten feet tall.
