Opened after much effort in 2013, on the Laura Secord Heritage Trail - "a permanent 32-km long hiking trail from Queenston to DeCew House which is being established this year [2013] to mark the bicentennial of Laura Secord's famous trek."
"Since before Laura's time, it has been a real challenge to get from the lowlands of Short Hills Provincial Park to DeCew House atop the Escarpment. Laura Secord had to ford the meandering channel of Twelve Mile Creek, reportedly on a fallen log, and scale the steep bluffs of the escarpment in near-darkness. Participants in the bicentennial Laura Secord Walk in 2013 crossed the new structure 200 years to the day after Laura Secord's famous journey."
"Based on an innovative design used in ecologically sensitive areas in New Zealand, the bridge is one of relatively few pedestrian suspension bridges in Canada."
