Text on the Stolpersteine:
HIER WOONDE
ALBERT VAN DUREN
GEB. 1912
GEDEPORTEERD
VERMOORD MEI 1945
BERGEN-BELSEN
Ab van Duren was Jehovah's witness. Jehovah's witnesses were persecuted for refusing to submit to the National Socialist ideology. For example, they refused to give the Hitler salute and to work in the arms industry. Ab van Duren had previously been released from camp Amersfoort because he had signed a statement that he would renounce his faith. After his release, however, he continued to preach and went into hiding with the Van Meteren family. The owner of the house found out about this and betrayed him to the Tiel police, who subsequently arrested him. He died in Bergen-Belsen.
