At the intersection of U.S. 380 and New Mexico 206 is the village of Tatum. It was founded by James Tatum in 1909 and he suggested that the Post Office be named Tatum so that it could be located in the store he owned. The town, with a population of about 800, continues as a cross roads providing services to the surrounding ranchers.
