The 2,981-acre Yellow Creek State Park is in Indiana County is located along U.S. Rt 422 near Penn Run. Named for the two streams that feed the 720-acre Yellow Creek Lake, Yellow Creek and Little Yellow Creek.
Park Type: A day use park with campsites available.
Activities: Picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, cross country skiing, mountain biking, orienteering, hunting, and wildlife watching.
Park Fees: General use is free, although licenses for some activities, fishing and hunting, apply. Campsite rentals.
Background: 'History of Yellow Creek State Park:
As part of its plan to have a state park within 25 miles of every resident of Pennsylvania, the former Department of Forests and Waters began acquiring land for a park during 1963.
An earth and rock dam, creating a 720-acre lake, was completed during 1969. The park was dedicated during 1976. An additional 159 acres of developed land were purchased during 1982."
