The
Sooner Schooner made its first appearance on the football field in 1964 in a game against USC. The Sooner Schooner (a scaled-down replica of a "Studebaker" Conestoga covered wagon) quickly became an official mascot of the OU Sooners. Pulled by two white ponies (Boomer and Sooner) the Sooner Schooner has appeared at very nearly every home and bowl game since - most notoriously at the 1985 Orange Bowl, when the Schooner inadvertently entered the field during play and drew a penalty. This, the original Sooner Schooner, is on permanent display here in the Memorial Student Union.
