Im Eingangsbereich des Aquariums vom Affenhaus kommend hängt dieses Bronzerelief von Josef Humar.
Josef Humar wurde am 27.03.1865 in Velden am Wörthersee in Kärnten, Österreich geboren. Sein Vater war Franz Humar, Lederermeister in Velden und seine Mutter Katharina geb. Zink aus St. Lorenz in der Wüste in der Steiermark. Die Großeltern Alois Humar, Faßbinder, und Maria geb. Achtsch stammen aus Stein in Krain, heute Kamnik in Slowenien.
Nach seiner Schulzeit lernte er den Beruf des Schriftsetzers. 1890 ging er nach München und heiratet dort 1891 Maria Woschner aus Kärnten. Aus dieser Ehe gingen vier Kinder hervor. Zusammen mit seinem Bruder Franz Humar eröffnete er 1892 in der Schellingstr. eine Druckerei, welche hauptsächlich hochwertige Kunstdrucke herstellte.
Erst 1912 erwarb Josef Humar die bayerische Staatsangehörigkeit. Von 1915 bis 1933 war er Mitglied des Stadtrates. Auch war er der Gründer der Hausbank München eG, dort steht auch eine Bronzestatue von ihm, angefertigt von Ulla M. Scholl. Weiterhin wird er als großer Förderer des Tierparks Hellabrunn im Gedächtnis bleiben (Vorsitzender der Tierpark A.G. 1929-1940). Humars Wirken hat entscheidend dazu beigetragen, dass der Münchner Tierpark Hellabrunn Weltgeltung besitzt.

Josef Humar was born on March 27th, 1865 in Velden am Wörthersee in Kärnten, Austria. His father was Franz Humar, a leather master in Velden and his mother Katharina born Zink from St. Lorenz in the desert in Styria. The grandparents Alois Humar, Faßbinder, and Maria born Achtsch lived in Stein in Krain, today Kamnik in Slovenia.
After finishing school he learned the profession of typesetter. In 1890 he went to Munich and married Maria Woschner from Kärnten in 1891. From this marriage there were four children. Together with his brother Franz Humar, he opened 1892 in Schellingstrasse a printing house which mainly produced high quality art prints.
Josef Humar did not acquire Bavarian citizenship until 1912. From 1915 to 1933 he was a member of the city council. He was also the founder of the Hausbank München eG, there is also a bronze statue of him, made by Ulla M. Scholl. He will also be remembered as a great sponsor of Hellabrunn Zoo (Chairman of the Tierpark A.G. 1929-1940). Humar's work has made a decisive contribution to the fact that the Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich has global reputation.
