This 'You Are Here' can be found on the Fife Coastal Path at the north-western corner of Tentsmuir Forest, a mile south-east of the coastal town of Tayport on the north-east tip of the Kingdom of Fife.
Known as Tayport Heath, this spot occupies a combination of low sand dunes and forest at the mouth of the Firth of Tay as it reaches the North Sea. A vast area of beach stretches north, and Tentsmuir Forest continues southwards for four miles, the whole area being part of Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve. The coastal path continues eastwards along the northern edge of the forest to Tentsmuir Point at the north-east tip of Fife.
Also on the sign is information on the nature reserve, in particular the wildlife that can be seen, and the plant species along the coastline and woodland.
Tayport Heath can be reached from the town along the coastal path, or from Morton Lochs car park a mile to the south-west. The main car park for Tentsmuir National Nature Reserve is at Kinshaldy, some four miles to the south-east towards the other end of the forest.
