NL / Be Beschrijving:

UK / US Description:
The lighthouse on this note is inspired by the West Schouwen lighthouse near Haamstede in Schouwen-Duiveland, Zeeland. This banknote was designed by RDE Oxenaar (in collaboration with JJ Kruit) according to his little house-tree-beast theory.

Banknotes should not only be individually recognizable per denomination, but also nameable, because they are ordinary everyday objects. He designed De Vuurtoren (250 guilders) as a house, the Zonnebloem (50 guilders) as a tree and the Snip (100 guilders) as an animal. The reverse shows the coastline of the Netherlands with reconnaissance lights, cloudy sky, dune landscape and the lighthouse of Ameland.
