The Appalachian Trail (AT) is a long distance trail stretching over 2,000 miles from Georgia to Maine. This trailhead is within the Rollercoaster section of the AT which is known for its constant elevation change and rocky terrain. Within the first mile of hiking you will come to Bears Den and Bears Den Overlook which is a popular destination for weekend hikers and families looking for a short and rewarding hike, of course you can continue south for many miles before deciding to turn around.
