This Boy Scout Camp Seph Mack was named for John Sephus Mack. J. Sephus Mack was born March 9, 1880 and died October 2, 1940. J. Sephus Mack was a philanthopic entrepreneur from McKeesport, Pennsylvania and Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Sephus Mack was known for his many philanthropies in McKeesport and Indiana County. His parents(John McCroy Mack and Sarah E. Murphy) were involved with the beginnings of the McCrory and Murphy five and ten cent variety stores in the late 1890's and 1900's. Sephus Mack at one time lived on the "old home manor" in nearby Brush Valley Township. Sephus Mack was a major contributor for the purchase of the property on which this camp is built. On February 11,1958, Sephus Mack was presented the Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of McKeesport, Pennsylvania for his work done on behalf of that organization. he also participated with the American Red Cross and Community Chest drives during the war years as well as many other patriotic and community activities.
