The AT&SF 1079 is a 2-6-2 “Prairie” style steam locomotive built by the Baldwin works in 1902. It was one of over 100 such locomotives ordered by AT&SF that year. The 2-6-2s had their problems (all their compound cylinders were simplified shortly after delivery for instance) nevertheless, they enjoyed decent longevity, mostly in light freight service on the Great Plains.
Number 1079 was donated to the city of Coffeyville in 1955. Of the 103 class 1050 locomotives operated by AT&SF, ten have been preserved in displays like this one.
