The plaque says, "The "First Around the World" globe reflect the Douglas Aircraft motto established after the historic around the world flight of 1924. The globe is a bronze recreation of the original that was installed at the entrance to the Douglas Aircraft Plant (opened in 1941) on Lakewood Boulevard. The Glove is eight feet in diameter and weights 6,045 points. The Douglas Park signage, hardscape materials and colors recall the globe's original installation. The dates on each side of the pedestal represent the Douglass Aircraft Plant historical milestone."
