"The heraldic or emblazonry description of the Ferrol coat of arms is as follows:

In a field of azure, the tower donjonada of silver, sometimes of gold, and attached with gules, added with a pole with a gold lantern, and terraced with rocks supported by wavy-band of azure and silver moving at the top. The brochante tower on four flags placed in cross, two of them checkered of silver and azure and the other two Spanish; at the foot of the tower, and holed behind it, two ancient cannons, highlighted by anchors resting on the flanks of the tower.
The central element of the Ferrol coat of arms is a donjonada tower , which is the term used by heraldry to indicate that the tower has a small tower in its upper part. The tower is often represented in white (emblazoned with silver ) although on some occasions it is yellow or golden ( gold ). The door and windows of the tower have a different color ( heraldic enamel ), since they are red ( gules ) and a pole with a lantern is represented on the tower ( added ). The tower is represented on some rocks (rock terraces ) that are located on waves ( corrugated-wavy) blue ( azure ) and white.

Behind the tower four flags are placed, two on each side. Two flags are the city of Ferrol, boxes formed by white and blue ( jaqueladas ), and the other two are Spanish . Next to the flags are two cannons and, leaning on the tower, two anchors .

Although the use of a marquis crown (sometimes replaced by a ducal crown) has spread in the stamp of the shield , some authors have pointed out that it would be more appropriate to replace it with a closed royal crown because the city depended on the Crown when its weapons.

On some occasions, the elements of the shield appear surrounded by a crown formed by laurel branches .

Since 1987, the City Council has used a logo in which a schematic version of the Ferrol shield can be seen in which a festoon with six points, four in sight, is used as a crown.

Despite not being able to find out the meaning that was given to the elements of the shield at the time of its creation, it is most likely that they represented the military and naval importance of this city."
