Dieser Tunnel wurde zusammen mit der Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Bahn von Lindau nach Hof (Bayern) errichtet. Er unterquert einen kleinen Berg im Stadtgebiet von Donauwörth. Baubeginn für den Tunnel war im Jahr 1845, die Fertigstellung erfolgte im Jahr 1848. Wenige Jahre nach der Eröffnung der Bahstrecke zeigte sich, dass die Bahnanlagen viel zu nahe am Stadtgebiet lagen und ihre Erweiterung deshalb nur schwer möglich war. Die Streckenführung wurde dann auf die Südseite des Donauwörther Stadtgebiets verlegt - zum heutigen Verlauf. Die Strecke mit dem Tunnel wurde 1877 stillgelegt. Heute verläuft ein Fuß- und Radweg durch den Tunnel. Zusätzlich wird (wurde?) der Tunnel auf seinem westlichen Ende als Vereinsheim eines örtlichen Vereins genutzt.

This tunnel was built together with the Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Bahn from Lindau to Hof (Bavaria). It passes under a small mountain in the urban area of Donauwörth. Construction of the tunnel began in 1845 and was completed in 1848. A few years after the opening of the railway line, it became clear that the railway was located far too close to the city area and that it was therefore difficult to expand. The route was then relocated to the south side of the Donauwörth urban area - as it is today. The line with the tunnel was closed in 1877. Today a foot and bike path runs through the tunnel. In addition, the tunnel at its western end is (was?) used as a clubhouse for a local club.
