Born in 1912 in Anderson County, SC, Gov. Timmerman would go on to be the 105th governor of South Carolina from 1955 to 1959. He was also the lieutenant governor of South Carolina from 1947 to 1955 under Strom Thurmond and later, James Byrnes. He was a lawyer who graduated from the Citadel and got his law license from the University of South Carolina. He would join the navy after the bombing of pearl harbor. He was a controversial governor who declared the desegregation of schools to be unconstitutional, a practice South Carolina would continue until 1970. He would later become a judge, and passed away at age 82 in 1994 in Batesburg, South Carolina. He was a member of the democratic party during his political career. He is buried at Batesburg Cemetery with his wife, parents, and other family members.
