The artist synonymous with the iconic "Love" sculpture that has become an Avenue of the Americas landmark and magnet for selfies, has a new shutterbug-friendly sculpture in town.
Robert Indiana's $3 million, 13-foot tall, 3-ton pop art sculpture "Hope" was moved to the corner of 7th Ave. and 53rd St. late Thursday, ahead of International Hope Day on Saturday. The day, which is Indiana's 86th birthday, was conceived as a way of covering "the world with hope."
The artist wants visitors to take selfies and post them to social media using the hashtag #HopeDay.
Hope sculptures will also be unveiled in Venice, Caracas, Munich, Miami and Vinalhaven, Maine, where the artist lives. Indiana created "Love" in 1964."
