[FR] Cette peinture en trompe l'œil est située à l'arrière du bâtiment du Crédit Mutuel, Rue Jean Moulin, à Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire.

L'œuvre fut réalisée dans les années 1990 par l'artiste-peintre François Pagé.

L'œuvre représente deux hommes d'âge mûr portant un tableau, l'un des hommes commençant à descendre les marches d'un escalier. Du côté opposé, une femme se tient dans l'encadrement d'une porte encadrée de pierre de tuffeau et de brique, dans un style typiquement de Touraine. Cette porte est surmontée du logo de la banque Crédit Mutuel.

En toute logique, il est à supposer que cette peinture fut commandée à l'artiste par le propriétaire de l'agence bancaire.

Le tableau en lui-même représente un paysage d'une ville portuaire, avec des bateaux à voile, la jetée d'un port, et un fronton de maisons. La technique de représentation de cette "peinture dans la peinture" diffère du reste du trompe l'œil : le rendu est celui d'une aquarelle. Les personnages en arrière-plan sont vêtus d'habits du XVIIème siècle. Or un autre personnage en tenue contemporaine est peint assis, en premier plan, et dans le style du trompe l'œil. Cette distinction de styles artistique et vestimentaire crée une mise en abyme : il s'agit d'un auto-portrait de l'artiste lui-même ! L'artiste François Pagé a ainsi peint un trompe l'œil avec un tableau dans lequel on a l'artiste lui-même en train de peindre ledit tableau !

[EN] This anamorphous street painting is located at the back of the Crédit Mutuel building, Rue Jean Moulin, in Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire.

The work was produced in the 1990s by the artist-painter François Pagé.

The work depicts two middle-aged men carrying a painting, one of the men starting to descend the steps of a staircase. On the opposite side, a woman stands in the frame of a door framed in tufa stone and brick, in a typical Touraine style. This door is topped with the logo of the Crédit Mutuel bank.

Logically, it is assumed that this painting was commissioned from the artist by the owner of the bank site.

The painting itself represents a landscape of a port city, with sailing boats, the pier of a port, and a pediment of houses. The technique of representation of this "painting in the painting" differs from the rest of the trompe l'oeil: the rendering is that of a watercolor. The figures in the background are dressed in 17th century clothes. However, another character in contemporary dress is painted seated, in the foreground, and in the style of trompe l'oeil. This distinction of artistic and clothes styles creates a mise en abyme: it is a self-portrait of the artist himself! The artist François Pagé thus painted an art with a painting in which we have the artist himself painting the said painting!
