Au cœur de Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, le parc de la Tour s’étend sur 1,9 ha. Créé au XIXème siècle, ce parc à l’anglaise fit l’objet d’une réhabilitation en 2001.
Parc littéraire, le site est composé de cinq lieux dédiés chacun à un genre littéraire particulier. La prairie face au manoir est vouée à la poésie ; la clairière et ses arbres célèbrent le roman ; la mare invite à la philosophie ; le boulingrin est transformé en espace théâtral ; et le verger avec son labyrinthe et son abécédaire représente l’univers du conte.
Le parc de la Tour invite à découvrir ceux qui ont marqué l’histoire littéraire de Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire. Honoré de Balzac, Anatole France, Henri Bergson ou Alexis de Tocqueville y ont en effet séjourné. Aujourd’hui, de gigantesques plumes métalliques rappellent aux promeneurs ces hôtes illustres.

> Anatole France
Né le 16 avril 1844 à Paris, Anatole François Thibault (dit Anatole France) est un écrivain français engagé. Il a notamment pris partie pour le capitaine Dreyfus. Il décide de quitter Paris en août 1914 pour rejoindre la Touraine où il fait l'acquisition d'une modeste gentilhommière, La Béchellerie, à Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire. Il s'y installe en octobre 1914.
C'est au cours de son séjour à La Béchellerie que « Monsieur France » épouse sa dame de compagnie, Mademoiselle Emma Laprévote. Le mariage a lieu le 11 octobre 1920 en l’ancienne mairie école de Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire.
Il reçoit le prix Nobel de littérature en 1921. Sacha Guitry lui rend hommage dans son film « Ceux de chez nous » réalisé en 1915.
Anatole France décède à La Béchellerie le 12 octobre 1924, mais il repose au cimetière ancien de Neuilly-sur-Seine.

> La statue
La statue représente le buste d'Anatole France. Il est l'œuvre du sculpture Antoine Bourdelle, qui fut l'ami d'Anatole France.
Le buste est sculpté dans une bloc de pierre de tuffeau blanc de Touraine. Le buste en lui-même mesure environ 80 cm de hauteur. Il est placé sur une simple colonne de section carrée, haute d'environ 1,40 m. La stèle est gravée de l'inscription suivante :
"ANATOLE FRANCE
PARIS 1844
SAINT CYR SUR LOIRE
1924"
Ce buste a une petite histoire :
En 1954, à l'occasion du 30ème anniversaire de la mort d'Anatole France, son petit-fils Lucien Psichari, qui habitait toujours La Beschellerie, écrivit à Georges Roy, maire de Saint-Cyr, pour lui dire que des admirateurs souhaitaient qu'un monument soit érigé à la mémoire de l'écrivain. Il y précisait même que le buste serait sculpté par Antoine Bourdelle, ami d'Anatole France, et placé sur une stèle très simple.
Le buste fut alors placé à l'arrière de la mairie (aujourd'hui à l'emplacement de la piscine municipale), et inauguré le 4 juin 1955.
En 2005, dans l'année du centenaire de sa mort, la municipalité de Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire déplaça le buste dans le Parc Littéraire de la Tour, ré-aménagé en 2001, et qui est dédié à la littérature et plus particulièrement aux hommes de lettres de Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, dont Anatole France fut l'un des plus illustres représentants. Le buste fut alors inauguré (une seconde fois !) le 17 septembre 2005 à son nouvel emplacement, à l'occasion des Journées Européennes du Patrimoine.

In the heart of Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, the Parc de la Tour covers 1.9 ha. Created in the 19th century, this English-style park was renovated in 2001.
Literary park, the site is made up of five places each dedicated to a particular literary genre. The meadow facing the manor house is dedicated to poetry; the clearing and its trees celebrate the novel; the pond invites to philosophy; the lawn bowling is transformed into a theatrical space; and the orchard with its labyrinth and its alphabet book represents the universe of the tale.
The Parc de la Tour invites you to discover those who have marked the literary history of Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire. Honoré de Balzac, Anatole France, Henri Bergson and Alexis de Tocqueville have indeed stayed there. Today, gigantic metallic feathers remind walkers of these illustrious guests.

Born April 16, 1844 in Paris, Anatole François Thibault (known as Anatole France) is a committed French writer. He notably took part for Captain Dreyfus. He decided to leave Paris in August 1914 to join Touraine where he acquired a modest manor house, La Béchellerie, in Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire. He moved there in October 1914.
It was during his stay at La Béchellerie that “Monsieur France” married his lady-in-waiting, Miss Emma Laprévote. The wedding took place on October 11, 1920 in the former school town hall of Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire.
He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1921. Sacha Guitry paid tribute to him in his film “Those from home” made in 1915.
Anatole France died in La Béchellerie on October 12, 1924, but he was buried in the old cemetery of Neuilly-sur-Seine.

The statue represents the bust of Anatole France. It is the work of the sculpture Antoine Bourdelle, who was the friend of Anatole France.
The bust is carved from a block of white tufa stone from Touraine. The bust itself is around 80cm tall. It is placed on a simple column of square section, about 1.40 m high. The stele is engraved with the following inscription:
"ANATOLE FRANCE
PARIS 1844
SAINT CYR SUR LOIRE
1924 "

In 1954, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Anatole France's death, her grandson Lucien Psichari, who still lived in La Beschellerie, wrote to Georges Roy, mayor of Saint-Cyr, to tell him that admirers wished that 'a monument be erected in memory of the writer. He even specified that the bust would be sculpted by Antoine Bourdelle, friend of Anatole France, and placed on a very simple stele.
The bust was then placed at the back of the town hall (today on the site of the municipal swimming pool), and inaugurated on June 4, 1955.
In 2005, in the year of the centenary of his death, the municipality of Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire moved the bust to the Literary Park of the Tower, reorganized in 2001, and which is dedicated to literature and more particularly to the men of letters of Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, of which Anatole France was one of the most illustrious representatives. The bust was then inaugurated (a second time!) On September 17, 2005 at its new location, on the occasion of European Heritage Days.
